We are committed to providing a fully accessible environment which values and includes all pupils, staff, parents and visitors regardless of their education, physical, sensory, social, spiritual and emotional needs. We are committed to challenging negative attitudes about disability and accessibility and to developing a culture of awareness, tolerance and inclusion.
What we do to prevent pupils with disabilities from being treated less favourably:
Admission arrangements for a child with an EHCP
Children and young people with an EHCP visit the Nursery with key adults to familiarise themselves with the Nursery environment. Information about the child’s needs and professionals that have been involved is recorded and a bespoke transition process is started. This generally involves the child attending Nursery for shorter sessions until they and their family are ready for them to attend full sessions.
We are proactive in inviting previous settings to support us with a smooth transition and seek information about the child’s attainment and progress and contact details of other professionals that have been working with the child.

Accessibility
Our environment is mostly accessible for pupils, staff, parents and visitors, regardless of their education, physical, sensory, social, spiritual and emotional needs. The exception to this is the entrance to our Nursery. In order to protect children from leaving the Nursery premises, the door has a high handle and a low handle that would make it difficult for a wheelchair user or a person with limited mobility to access.
The Nursery has CCTV installed on the front of the building and has also recently had work completed to install a ‘hatch’ where all visitors can be seen. Office based staff are able to assist immediately should a visitor need it.
The Nursery has a full size changing bed installed in one of the children’s bathrooms and an accessible toilet for adults.
Children with a disability have full access to the curriculum – Reasonable adjustments are made, when necessary. Children are never excluded from activities due to their disability.
Aclet Close Nursery School is committed to challenging negative attitudes about disability and accessibility and to developing a culture of awareness, tolerance and inclusion.
The school accessibility plan details the short, medium and long term actions for 3 years at a time. Reviews of the plan take place on an annual basis.
The facilities to assist access are outlined in our Accessibility Plan which you can find in the School Policies section of our website.
Our Accessibility Plan and the short, medium and long term actions, will be reviewed and adjusted on an annual basis and a new Accessibility Plan will be produced every three years.
The Accessibility Plan contains relevant actions to:
- Improve access to the physical environment of the school, adding specialist facilities as necessary.
- Increase access to the curriculum for pupils with a disability. This covers reasonable adjustments within teaching and learning, specialist aids and equipment and the wider curriculum of the school, such as after school clubs, visits etc,
- Improve the provision of information to pupils, staff, parents and visitors with disabilities. All information will be made available in various formats within a reasonable time frame.
