After a long career of teaching at a secondary school in Bishop Auckland I became a co-opted governor at Aclet Close Nursery School in May 2011. I am privileged to maintain my involvement in education and its challenges in today’s climate.
I enjoy playing an active role in a setting that strives to provide for all children a supportive environment with stimulating resources for playing and exploring, active learning and thinking critically. I value the important role of parents in their child’s learning, an active partnership between teacher, child and parent is vital to future success.
During my extended working life, developing the Extended Services Agenda for schools , I established links with the local community networking with organisations and agencies that could be of use to our nursery school. I am Chair of Woodhouse Close Children’s Centre Advisory Board and through this connection a strong supportive partnership has developed between the centre and EYFS in primary and nursery schools that includes education and health working together for the mutual benefit to achieve better outcomes for children and their families.
I have an active lifestyle enjoying sport and hill walking, find fulfilment as a governor of two local schools, a member committee member of our village hall, treasurer of the local history group and a love of reading including participation in a book group.
